Warning: TL;DR
People make me rage.
Rage hard.
I read the news on CNN.com almost everyday because I'm a dweeb.
The Cali Prop 8 irks me to no return. There's an article on it too, which I just finished reading, and upon reading most of the comments... urgh. I just feel like smashing my head into a wall.
Why?
Why do you have to discriminate?
I hate how almost every person who is against same-sex marriage only has one thing to back up their choice;
the bible
Because God stated that being homosexual is a sin, huh?
Okay, so your religion does not accept same-sex marriage. I'm all good with that. Whatever is your belief, you follow. I respect that in all it's entirety.
I'm atheist. I do not believe in a higher being and know little of the teachings in the bible. But I am aware that in the testament, it's stated that God made Adam and Eve. Not Adam and Steve, as a familiar example. Alrighty.
So God made Adam and Eve, and says homosexuality is a sin, marriage should be between only a male and a female, and should be only recognized as marriage when it is so.
It's your religion, you can abide by those rules.
But let me throw out this.
We have a heterosexual couple. Neither the husband nor wife are Christian, nor do they believe in God at all. They love each other, care for each other, and would do anything in the world for each other and have been happily married for over 3 years. Since they do not believe in God, nor what the bible says, does that mean that their marriage should not be recognized? Should they not have been allowed to wed before?
We have a homosexual couple. Both are male, or both are female. They love each other, care for each other, would do anything in the world for each other and have been happily married for over 3 years. Both believe in God and abide by his teachings.
What is the difference here?
The fact that one couple is male and female, and the other is either male/male or female/female, right?
That's the only difference.
I always thought that God loved everyone and accepted everyone.
What.
It makes no difference to me if my neighbour, my co-workers, my friends, if they are gay. Does it make a difference? Do I wake up every morning and think "Oh fuck, there's a gay couple close to me and shit man, is my day ever ruined..."
No.
Because there's no way to tell, unless they tell you.
Like everyone else.
Everyone else.
Everyone.
Of course there will be some who want to marry for money. There are people in this world who do it just for the marriage benefits, homosexual and heterosexual alike. It's not like all of a sudden taxes will go WHOOSH, UP +15% if they are finally allowed the rights.
The only thing that will be accomplished from such a thing is the oppression of millions upon millions of people, denying them the right to be happy.
Of course you can just remain boyfriend and boyfriend or girlfriend and girlfriend.
But don't people marry so that legally, it can be stated under the law that they live with each other, love each other, so that it can be acknowledged that their relationship gives rights? That their happiness has benefits?
So why?
